The Devil Made Me Do It

Just a little follow up on one of my favorite alcoholic crash dummies, Amy Winehouse, who has once again made the news with a spectacular failure. She has added to a recent quick succession of aborted outings and performances by throwing a tantrum in the recording studio, smashing her guitar, and blaming her drug use on the “devil” (see picture). Hard to believe it was only nine months ago I used her as an example in the Alcoholic’s Playbook in which she seemed convinced enough of her ability to control her addiction that she would be able to throw one last hurrah.

Alcoholic Oxymoron: Televised In-House Treatment

Hat Tip and thanks to TDA reader Norm for the heads up on this one!
alcoholic oxymoronIt’s being reported that one of my least favorite alcoholics, Andy Dick, will participate in reality show called Sober Living. Locking up a bunch of media whores in a Hollywood mansion full of cameras with celebrity doctor Drew Pinsky is not what I would call a serious attempt at sobriety. In fact, this type of televised in-house treatment is more of an alcoholic oxymoron.

An alcoholic oxymoron is formed when terms are combined that are incongruous or contradictory when considered in context with alcoholism, addiction, and recovery issues. A good example I used recently is when golf pro and alcoholic John Daly talked about his recent “controlled drinking”. Of course we all know that an alcoholic that is even considering drinking is already effectively, out of control.

Calvin Klein Kills Eva Mendez’s Natural Beauty

Within thirty seconds of Eva Mendez being displayed in her undies on my monitor my wife’s sixth sense had kicked in drawing her into my office.

“But in her underwear?”

Well that one took a little more explaining.

Andy, Dick

Joker is DC Comic Copyright

The simple insertion of the smallest of punctuation marks is just my way of saying that Andy Dick has lived up to his name.

MURRIETA, Calif. — Comedian Andy Dick was arrested Wednesday morning in Murrieta, Calif., for investigation of drug use and sexual battery after he allegedly pulled down a teenager's top, police said. ~ Fox News

Alcoholism can turn even the most likable characters into social misfits but unfortunately with Mr. Dick, he wasn’t likeable in the first place. He has been charged with everything from drug possession to urinating on people over the last ten years yet a drug diversion program has been his stiffest penalty to date. Usually I am an advocate for alternative sentencing for drug and alcohol related victimless crimes, but not in this case since he continues to force himself upon others by exposing himself and groping his victims. I hope the judge teaches him a lesson this time around, it might just be the thing that saves his life.

And what about this mug shot? He looks absolutely villainous. His wicked leer made me think of the old school Joker from DC Comics, and apparently I’m not the only one who had this thought.
