A Very Fitting Trinket

Those of you familiar with industry trade shows know that many people who attend these events often tend to overindulge in the alcoholic beverage department. I guess it’s being away from the spouse and kids, the novelty of travel, or the fact that most expenses are on the company tab that is the catalyst for the behavior. So while attending an event this week in Phoenix I ran across a company that was giving away a rather fitting trinket to potential customers considering the environment, a breathalyzer.

An Anchor to Keep from Drifting

Most alcoholics find safe harbor in their recovery routines and comfortable surroundings. The support of friends and family, familiar meeting places, and yes, having those that know of our plight helping to assure our accountability all add a measure of safety and help staying sober at home an easier task. But what about those that travel or who are called away unexpectedly, especially for emotional issues like a death in the family or severe business trouble.

Nothing but strangers around, a lonely hotel room, and only the company of one’s thoughts can be a recipe for disaster for an alcoholic with no anchor to keep from drifting.

I’m Going to Jackson


This song has been stuck in my head for the last 24 hours after my wife asked me about my first destination for the week. I figured since it was going to play in a continuous loop in the back of my mind I might as well blog the experience. Actually it’s a fairly good song to review, kind of a reality vs delusion take on painting the town red.
