Prescription drug abuse is rampant with pain killing medications like Oxycontin and Vicodin (opioids) primarily being responsible for a surge in addictions. Most states have realized the problem with these medications and have implemented opioid regulations and increased scrutiny of pain management prescriptions. These actions have made a definite impact on the supply of diverted medicine on the market yet the number of addicts continues to grow. So what is an addict supposed to do?

Unfortunately for addicts the answer to their supply problem is high quality heroin. Heroin use until recently had been in decline, not so much because the war on drugs but instead because of the absolute flood of high strength prescription pain killers made available by careless doctors, clueless patients, and internet sales. These medications were more attractive than heroin because they offered the same punch but were cheaper and didn't require messy, scary needles.
The new and improved heroin though is so potent it can be smoked or snorted to produce the same high, something easily accepted by addicts (and newcomers) that have been reduced to crushing and/or cooking their pills. And thanks to new technology, a porous Southern border, and the global economy this high quality heroin is cheap and plentiful.
Help for the new age addict has arrived riding a pure white horse, but it certainly isn’t a hero.
