The ever diligent unofficial TDA researcher AnnaZ sent me this piece of modern internet art I like to call, Google Earth’s "Drunk Boy in Road". Yeah it doesn’t quite have that ageless quality of Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring” or power of Hokusai’s “The Great Wave”, but for me it is a very moving piece. It reminds me of a much younger TDA, maybe around fourteen, that pulled a very similar stunt. In fact, it was probably the very point in my life in which alcohol began to steer the direction of my future.

My parents had divorced; dad had moved away to the city and took most of my siblings. I stayed back with mom and with my new found freedom began running with an older crowd. Small town, so it wasn’t long before word of my antics were relayed to my dad. The story of the neighbors having to drag me out of the middle of the road while passed out was the straw that broke the camels back, and before I knew it I had been pressed back into family service with dad at the helm. Of course living once again in a strict household didn’t stop me from drinking, it just slowed me down a little and made me much more adept at hiding it.
So there you have it, Google Earth’s “Drunk Boy in Road” might just as well been a nothing more than a reprint of TDA’s Life of an Alcoholic Art Gallery.
