My Uncle Horlicke’s Friends

I try to steer Fri/Sat editions toward more light hearted topics which can be can be a problem sometimes considering the serious nature of this site. Not so challenging tonight however, I actually laughed at loud when I saw this dated comment about the Dresden Dolls’ song My Alcoholic Friends while searching for some background on the song’s lyrics.

When I first heard this song, I didn't know the title, and I thought she was saying " my Uncle Horlicke's friends" and I was really confused, because who the hell who Uncle Horlicke be? But then I saw the title and everything kinda clicked together. Yay for self-explanitory song titles! ~ Songmeanings

Hah, I have always had a hard time accurately discerning the lyrics to songs but “Uncle Horlicke” takes the cake!

someday i will write a long story about the year i spent at 20 completely drunk and all the embarrassing details and near misses with rape and death. one thing is for sure: if i stack up all of the serious mistakes and regrets and shame-filled moments of my life, most of them fall in the drunk basket. thank god i never spent a year on hard drugs. why do we do this?

Not exactly on topic for this but some of my favorites of Amanda include Perfect Fit and Coin Operated Boy. Yeah, I know I most people expect me to be a Freebird type of guy but I tend to have an eclectic taste in music and the arts in general.
